Documenting the Redevelopment of Grade-II Listed Bowcliffe Hall

Lancashire based firm, Conlon Construction, have recently launched a Yorkshire division and are currently completing a £5.6m redevelopment of Grade II-listed Bowcliffe Hall on behalf of the Bayford Group.

The multi-phase project comprises the construction of an iconic aeroplane wing-shaped conference centre and various refurbishment works across the nineteenth century building and grounds, including converting a cricket pavilion and other redundant buildings into office space and a new Drivers Club Restaurant. Work is scheduled to be completed by August 2014.

Having designed a custom branded Christmas card for Conlon in November 2013, Charlotte Gale was commissioned by Neil Conlon (Conlon Construction, Yorkshire Division) and Jonathan Turner (Bayford Group) to document the progress of the project photographically.

Children’s photography … how to avoid getting ripped off!

Parenthood is a magical time in one’s life and as children grow up so fast, a professional photo shoot can be a great way of preserving memories for the future. However, as many new parents discover, it is an experience which can often leave a larger than anticipated hole in your wallet.

A free or discounted studio shoot may sound like a fantastic way of capturing those special moments and can also be a tempting gift from a friend or relative. However, the reality is that some more unscrupulous studios then make up the lost revenue by selling parents expensive photo packages after the event, often using overly aggressive sales techniques which can leave people feeling pressurised into buying something they can’t afford.

This informative and somewhat shocking article on MSN Money delves deeper into the problem and makes an interesting read for any parent considering getting their children photographed. It also highlights the virtues of commissioning an independent photographer, who may charge more realistically for their time initially, but is also likely to be upfront about the price list from the start.

New Yorkshire Greetings Cards by Charlotte Gale – August 2013

It’s been a busy summer for me with all this good weather, but in amongst the baby, interior, food and events photo shoots I have somehow found time to photograph and design 20 new blank greetings cards. I love this part of my job as it not only enables me to get creative, but I also have a great excuse to get out and about in the Yorkshire countryside.

The latest additions to the Pictur-esque card range include scenes from Harrogate, Knaresborough, Goldsborough, Sutton Bank, Sandsend, Whitby, Hawnby, Leeds and further afield in the gorgeous valley of Borrowdale in the English Lake District.

You can view and buy all my cards online at www.pictur-esque.com and at selected local retailers, including Fodder (Yorkshire Showground), Oatlands Mount Post Office (Leeds Road, Harrogate), Zigzag Cards & Gifts (Knaresborough High Street), The Old Foundry Kitchen (Boroughbridge) and Meadow (Whitby)

I will also be selling my cards this August Bank Holiday weekend at a special event at the Lightwater Valley Shopping Village. Do come along if you’re in the area. I will be selling my products between 10am and 5pm on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 August.
