Oak Tree Inn Rebrand

Last month I was commissioned by one of my regular clients, Provenance Inns, to take a series of food and interior photographs at The Oak Tree Inn in Helperby, as part of a rebranding exercise. The Yorkshire Steak House & Grill is the newest brand in the Provenance collection, with the menu featuring locally reared beef cooked in the Oak Tree’s new wood-fired oven, Bertha.

Brilliant Lighting Portfolio Shoots

For high end lighting design companies, such as Brilliant Lighting in Thirsk, having a strong portfolio of professional images to show potential clients is a crucial element in securing new work. At this end of the market, interior photography is incredibly time consuming and good attention to detail is paramount.

Lighting photography adds further complications. Not only is it vital that the ambience and level of light in a room is faithfully replicated in the photograph, but the photographer must avoid over exposing the light fittings, so that the detail is clearly visible.

During the past two years I have worked closely with the team at Brilliant to photograph a range of properties for their portfolio, from opulent private houses to luxury Yorkshire hotel, Swinton Park. Brilliant have then been able to use my photography both within their website design and also to illustrate case studies.

On a portfolio shoot with renowned interior designer Mary Barber Fray

I saw a great quote on Twitter the other day courtesy of @eskimon. It read “People don’t want more content; they want better content. Add value not volume.”  In a digital age this is so true and it doesn’t just apply to words, but visual content too.

I have helped businesses in all sectors improve their visual identity through high quality photography. However, one of my particular areas of speciality is high-end interiors; both for hotels and restaurants and also for private clients and designers. I recently completed a portfolio piece for renowned Midland’s designer, Mary Barber Fray, who appeared in the Telegraph’s 2013 list of ‘20 best interior designers in Britain‘.

According to Mary’s website she is renowned for her “… innate sense of style and space, her passion for colour, and a meticulous eye for detail.” Fortunately I am somewhat of a perfectionist myself, so we set to work dressing the rooms, straightening pictures, ironing out creases and plumping cushions – a laborious yet necessary element of any interiors photo shoot.

Many hours later, here are some of the results:
